You have been provided with a wedge cushion to improve your posture and help ease aches and pains. Posture wedge cushions help relieve pressure on your back by altering your posture. They are designed to be used on standard chairs at both home and school.
The posterior wedge cushion is designed to be sat on, with the thicker end at the front of the chair and the thinner end at the back of the chair. It is designed to tilt the pelvis backwards, reducing the curve in your lower back.

The cushion encourages the pelvis to tilt backwards, reducing the curve in your lower back. This should relieve stress on your back and thus help reduce back pain. The cushion should encourage a normal curve while sitting.
Begin by sitting on the cushion for 20 minutes in order to develop tolerance for the improved seating position. You may find that your back is achier for the first week. This is normal as your muscles get used to the new posture. Once you begin to feel comfortable in the position, use the cushion whenever you sit on your regular school or dining chairs. Your therapist will continue to review your posture.
