The class is a 45 minute exercise class which will involve a warm up, specific exercises for your leg and cardio vascular exercise. There will be 2 physiotherapists leading the class. At certain stages during your rehabilitation you may be reassessed by a physiotherapist to monitor your progress. This will happen alongside the class so should not require any extra sessions.
Please wear suitable clothes and footwear for exercising in and drink of water.
After an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction it takes around 12 months before you are allowed to return to sport. This is a guidance only and your progress is dependent on how hard you work at your exercises. For other conditions you will be advised by the physiotherapists.
You will most likely be asked to attend weekly but this will be guided by the physiotherapist leading the session.
You do not need to have a parent or guardian stay with you throughout the class. If they wish to stay there is a waiting area with facilities to buy a drink or they can watch the class.
It is important that you ring the physiotherapy department on 0114 271 7227 to let us know if you cannot attend. If you miss multiple classes without letting us know we will contact your surgeons and you may be discharged.
If you have any change in your symptoms such as pain, swelling and so on let your physiotherapist know.
The entrance is off East Bank road and there is a large, free car park. The main entrance is signposted and once inside you will be shown where to go. The leisure centre is accessible by public transport. Select Travel South Yorkshire for route planning help.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Matt Denton or Philippa Fenlon on 0114 271 7227.
