A Sheffield eating disorder assessment and treatment team (SEDATT) assessment is an extended appointment where we can spend time with you and your family to get to know more about your difficulties and how they are affecting your day to day living.
During this time, your and your child or young person will also get a chance to speak and share their views away from each other to make sure that everyone has a chance to speak and feel listened to.
The assessment can take up to 3 hours. We believe that this is the most effective way to make sure young people and their families are gaining access to the most appropriate treatment in a timely manner.
Assessment clinics take place at Beighton Community CAMHS and Centenary Community CAMHS every week.
You can meet multiple members of the team instead of attending multiple appointments.
Physical checks can be taken at the clinic, including heights, weight, blood pressure.
You can talk about each other’s hopes and work towards goals together.
These assessments usually have at least 3 professionals from the SEDATT team.
To begin with, you, your child or young person, family and professionals will all meet together for a discussion.
Your child or young person will then have opportunity to go for a physical examination with a doctor and they will have chance to speak on their own away from their family. During this time, the family will also get a chance to speak and share their views away from the young person.
There will be a break and the team will discuss the information so far.
Everyone will come back together and a plan will be suggested for moving forward. There is flexibility within this and we will always work to make sure that you are comfortable and taking breaks when needed.
If the team around you thinks it would be helpful to attend a SEDATT assessment, you will be invited via letter. The letter will contain the date, time and address of the appointment along with some extra questionnaires for you to complete before attending.
