Charging electrical devices safely

Incorrect use of electrical devices can cause risk of fire, so please help us to keep everybody safe by following these rules below.

Do
  • An adult must be present when items are on charge
  • Only charge devices for the recommended time
  • Place devices on a hard surface while charging, such as a bedside table
  • Phones, tablets and handheld game consoles must be charged from USB sockets
  • Laptops must be charged using the original manufacturer’s branded charger
  • Medical devices with batteries such as wheelchairs must be in good condition, with no damage to the batteries, cables or chargers
Do not
  • Do not use portable chargers and power banks
  • Do not charge devices overnight
  • Do not charge devices on beds or under pillows
  • Large toys, scooters, hoverboards, bicycles, and so on, are not permitted in the hospital at any time, and must not be used or charged

There are plenty of USB charging ports and sockets available on the wards.

If you are unsure about something, please ask a member of staff who can make sure your device is safe for charging.
