Treating nappy rash and sore bottoms

What should I use to cleanse the nappy area with?

To clean your baby’s nappy area, use an emollient (moisturiser) with the large cotton wool squares. This will not irritate sensitive skin or drag the skin.

Should I use nappy wipes?

No do not use nappy wipes. Any nappy wipes with perfume and additives can further harm the broken and sore skin.

Shall I aim for nappy free periods during the day?

Yes, try to aim for nappy-free periods of time during the day wherever possible.

What do I apply if there is any fungal, bacterial or viral infection?

If you think your baby has a fungal, bacterial or viral infection, we can prescribe you an appropriate treatment.

What can I use as a barrier cream for the sore areas?

We recommend using an ointment in a tube as a barrier for sore areas. Please do not use Sudocrem or Metanium as this is perfumed .
