Talking Toddlers: Ready, steady, go games

Ready, steady, go games:

  • Play with cars down a ramp
  • Bubbles
  • A tickling game

Remember to pause before you say go to see if your child says ‘go’ or reaches or looks at you to ask for more.

Enjoy playing this game with your child. If your child gets bored, stop and try again another day.

Leaving a pause before you say ‘go’ during ready, steady, go activities gives your child a chance to anticipate what is coming next. This can help your child to build up their attention.

In activities such as bubbles, this will give your child time to communicate that they are waiting for ‘go’. They may do this by reaching, signing or vocalising. If your child begins to copy ‘go’ or ‘more’ you could model two words together such as ‘more bubbles’.

You can also sign as you say ‘go’.
