Ryegate communications clinic

Ryegate communications clinic is run by a multidisciplinary team. This is the best way to get to know your child well.

How the process works

Initial appointment

Your child will be seen by a doctor specialising in social communication difficulties. The doctor will send you a letter about what happened in this appointment.

Assessment stage

Next someone will contact you to arrange another assessment for your child from the Ryegate team. This will either be through weekly play sessions at Ryegate or through observation at your child’s nursery setting (if they have started nursery). This will depend on their age and number of sessions they attend. Some of the staff helping assess your child will be from a speech and language therapist and a specialist teacher.

This assessment stage will take around 12 to 14 weeks while the professionals involved look at your child in the setting and gather information. Once this has finished they will invite you to a 2nd appointment at Ryegate.

2nd appointment

At review appointment a speech and language therapist and a psychologist will talk to you about the assessment and any diagnosis with you.

At this review you will also hear how the team plan to support your child in the future.
