The ophthalmology department is on A floor and can be accessed from its own entrance on A road (opposite the multi storey car park).
If you wish to speak to someone before coming to the hospital or have some special requirements feel free to contact the Royal Hallamshire patient services team on 0114 271 2400.
When you are transferred from children’s to adult services a new referral has to be processed, even if you will be seeing the same consultant. If you wish to check if an appointment has been made or a referral received please call 0114 226 8561 or 0114 226 5894.
If you have immediate concerns and you are now too old to attend A&E (over 16) at the children’s hospital please contact the Emergency Eye Centre on 0114 271 2495.
At the adult clinic you have a choice to go by yourself, or to bring your parent or carer with you.
This may take a bit of time to get used to, work out what makes you most comfortable and feel free to ask if you have any questions.
You may want to write down questions and bring them to your appointment.
The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals site has information about public transport, car parking and visiting hours.
In the ophthalmology section you can find a list of services and contact numbers for the consultants and secretaries.
The nursing and medical staff will always maintain confidentiality about you and your care. If we need to talk to someone else about you we would discuss this with you first. If you wish to discuss anything on your own with your nurse or doctor this can be arranged.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact the eye centre at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on 0114 226 8778.

We’ve got a special MRI scanner just for teddies so children can see what it’s like before they have a scan.
