You should always follow the instruction leaflet provided with the I-neb. You will be taught how to use the I-neb by the physiotherapy team when it is issued.
This is an antibiotic and is a form of Colistin. When using the I-neb you must use the grey chamber. Make up the Promixin as indicated depending on the age of your child.
Age | Up to 10 years old | 10 years and over |
0.9 percent saline to be added to 1 MU (million unit) vial |
2ml | 1ml |
If for any reason your I-neb is not available and you are using a different nebuliser you must change the amount of saline you add to the Promixin to make sure you get the correct dose.
For up to 10 years old, add 3ml of 0.9 percent saline to 1 vial of Promixin. Nebulise 3ml of the solution.
For over 10 years old, use 2 vials of Promixin. Add 1.5ml of 0.9 percent saline to each vial and nebulise the full amount.
For DNase you must use the green chamber.
For Bramitob or Tobi, you must use a lilac chamber and you need to do 2 times (1 after the other) to get the full dose.
For Mucoclear or Hypertonic saline, you must use a lilac chamber and you need to do 2 times (1 after the other) to get the full dose.
You must bring your I-neb along to your annual review appointments. You can also bring it along to clinic visits.
The company who provide the I-neb will send out replacement medication chambers at least once a year. If your address or contact details change please let either the cystic fibrosis physiotherapy team know or you can contact the I-neb company directly on 0800 130 0857.
