Help for Hearing is a service for deaf and hearing impaired children, young people and their families. It helps them choose suitable environmental aids and technical equipment to use at home and in social situations.
The demonstration equipment has been provided by Hear Again. Hear Again was a local charity (no. 1017118) with the aim: ‘To work with existing charities, voluntary and statutory organisations in improving communication and services to hearing impaired people.’
We are not able to provide any of the equipment for use at home. This must be purchased from manufacturers or retail outlets, or in some circumstances, may be provided by local social services
The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) is a great resource for families who want more information about technology compatible with hearing aids.
The NDCS Technology Test Drive service offers deaf children, their families and the professionals working with them the opportunity to borrow a wide range of products and try them out in their own home or at school.
The Technology Test Drive can help you decide which products can help your child. After the loan you may decide to purchase the product or you may be able to obtain it from your local education authority or social services on a long-term basis.
Streamers allow you to wirelessly link hearing devices to a wide range of sound sources. These can include the TV, telephones and Bluetooth enabled devices such as mobile phones, laptops and tablets. Streamers are generally worn around the neck or clipped to clothing.
The type of streamer that can be used is determined by the model of hearing aid you have, so please speak with your audiologist about your hearing aids.
We have strong links with ‘Phonak’ a hearing aid manufacturer and if you purchase any devices through www.connevan-phonak.co.uk quoting SCH01, Hearing services department will receive money back.
Your teacher of the deaf or educational audiologist is an excellent link to help understand the best equipment suitable for your child’s needs.
