Core vocabulary stage 4 programme
Strategies
Make sure the core vocabulary board is available at all times to the child or young person. This helps them have easier access to communicate.
Do
- Model, model, model
- Point to the symbols as you are talking
- Allow time for them to explore the board
Don't
- Take the child’s hand to help them to point
- Tell them to point
- Tell them to say it again using the board if they have said a word, signed or gestured. Just model what they said back to them using the board.

- Tidy up time
- Circle time
- Snack and dinner
