Coming to Ryegate for cognitive assessment

I am coming to Ryegate for a cognitive assessment.

Ryegate Children's Centre Front Entrance

A cognitive assessment is puzzles and quizzes for children or young people. It is not like a school test. Lots of children come to Ryegate for a cognitive assessment.

I will do the cognitive assessment with a psychologist. Doing a cognitive assessment helps the psychologist to find out what I am really good at.

The assessment also helps the psychologist to find out what I find difficult.

When I come for a cognitive assessment, I will go into a room with the psychologist and my parent or carer. The room might look like this or this. It may look a different way too.

Before doing the cognitive assessment, the psychologist may ask me and my parent or carer some questions about what I do at home and school. Then the psychologist will do the cognitive assessment with me. This may take a while. This is ok. We can have a break if I get tired. Sometimes the psychologist might ask me to come back on a different day to finish the assessment.

We usually sit at a table or desk to do the assessment. My parents might stay in the room with me while I do the assessment or they might wait in the waiting room if I am ok with this.

Some puzzles or questions may be easy. Some puzzles or questions may be difficult. This is ok. Most children find some puzzles or questions difficult.

When the cognitive assessment is done, the psychologist may talk to me and my parents about it. Then we are finished.

I am coming to Ryegate for a cognitive assessment.
