Cochlear implants support after implantation

Your child has now had their cochlear implants switched on. So what support can Hearing Services provide?

The centre that provided your cochlear implant will continue to monitor your child’s hearing from now on. Hearing Services will not send routine appointments to be seen at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

We will however provide:

Medical Audiology input

Our specialist paediatrician can assess your child’s general development. If you raise any needs that require support the paediatrician can facilitate this.

Genetic testing can be offered and arranged. This can also be requested by your child when they are older if they wish to know more about this.

Ear moulds

Some families like to use ear moulds similar to that used with hearing aids to keep the cochlear implant processor in place. Hearing services will provide these until a child has grown enough that the processor stays behind the ear on its own.

Batteries

Your cochlear implant centre will provide these but we do stock them at Hearing Services in case of emergencies.
