For patients aged 12 and over.
Some tests and treatments can cause harm to an unborn baby.
If you are 12 years old or have started your period, we need to make sure you are not pregnant.
Even if you have not had sex, we still ask everyone.
We will ask if you have periods, and when your last one was.
We might need a wee sample so we can do a pregnancy test.
Your parent or carer can stay with you.
Or you can be by yourself.
We do not share this information without your permission, unless it is a risk to your health and safety.
If you are pregnant and under 13 years old, we will have to tell Safeguarding and Social Care Services.
We might need to ask you some more questions about why you do not want a pregnancy test.
It might delay or cancel what you have come into hospital for.
Ask a nurse or doctor to explain. We want you to understand.
