Bone disease appointment

We have received your referral at Sheffield Children’s, and you are now on the waiting list for an appointment with the Metabolic Bone team.

Where will the appointment be?

Metabolic Bone clinics are held at the main Outpatients department at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. This information will be included in your appointment letter.

How long will the appointment last?

Your first appointment will be around 40 minutes long.

What will happen at the appointment?

When you arrive, your child will have their height and weight measured. Please arrive 15 minutes early to your appointment to allow time for this.

Depending on the reason for referral, we may also request an X-ray or a Dexa scan.

During your appointment, your child will be seen by a consultant, a nurse, and there may be a physiotherapist or an occupational therapist present. They will ask questions about your child’s general health and wellbeing, if your child experiences any pain or discomfort or if they have broken a bone, and if they have any difficulty doing anything in their day-to-day life.
