Autism support guide

There are lots of different types of autism support to help you and your child. This resource helps to guide you to find the resources.

Sheffield Children’s autism website is full of support and links to other charities, groups and agencies.

The autism directory in the patient library includes a lot of the information on our webpages including diagnosis, national support, local information, funding and benefits, and much more.

Our virtual autism workshop videos will help to support your understanding of autism and how it impacts your child. You can also find a range of support and information on sleep, toileting, eating, emotional well-being, education, and support for your family as a whole.

Our sensory virtual therapy area resource provides parents and carers with knowledge, ideas and strategies to support your child or young person with sensory needs that may be impacting on their everyday life.

You can access the understanding and managing difficult feelings workshop that includes a range of videos and resources.

It can be useful to speak to the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCO) at your child’s school or nursery to discuss how they can best support your child. Your child’s school or nursery can also access advice and support from the Sheffield Autism and Social Communication Education Team.

Sheffield City Council has a range of services for children who need additional support. These services can be found on the Sheffield local offer website and are aimed at supporting children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Sheffield Parent Carer Forum have a Peer Support Service where parents can access; information, advice, and confidential 1 on 1 support. If you would like to find out more please call 0300 321 4721 or email: peersupport@sheffieldparentcarerforum.org.uk
